The archdruid saw no signal in risking lives and energies for a place that had been made into a desert. As Fandral saw information technology, even barren places had their identify in the purpose of Azeroth.[3]

Southern Barrens

Cataclysm This section concerns content related to Calamity.

As Druids, we are tasked with protecting the residue of nature. My life'southward work has gone against this. In my folly, I have sewn chaos, and this deviant ingather must be reaped before it spreads farther.
Gossip What happened here?
Did you know that the Barrens was in one case a lush forest? Thousands of years ago, before the first Sundering, information technology was verdant and thriving, watched over by the Kaldorei. Just when the continents were torn apart, and this country became separated as what nosotros call Kalimdor, this valley of nature became a harsh, lord's day-scorched patently.
When I first learned this, I saw it as a corking tragedy. I decided I would find a way to regrow the forests again.
Gossip How?
While studying the land, I discovered a cave that stretched deep beneath the earth. These waterways carried cloak-and-dagger rivers for miles below the parched savannah above. I named them the Wailing Caverns, for the howls made past the wind and steam as they coursed through its depths.
This would be the instrument of revival, I thought. The h2o had already bubbled to the surface as small, lush oases throughout the Barrens...if it were imbued, enhanced, this growth could spread across the unabridged land.
Gossip So what did you exercise?
My programme was to connect these cloak-and-dagger waters directly to the Emerald Dream itself. With my faithful disciples, I journeyed deep within the Wailing Caverns, settled into meditation, and entered the Dream. Through my own torso, this world was continued to it.
It was there that everything went wrong.
Gossip What happened?
I came upon what I can but describe equally an overwhelming corruption within the Emerald Dream. An unending nightmare that seized me in its claws and tore at my very mind. I could not break costless of its grasp; my disciples were unable to wake me.
Any this abuse was, information technology found its way into our world through my torso. I did indeed channel its energies into the Wailing Caverns, and its horrible influence twisted the wild fauna at that place into cluttered, deviate forms. Even my disciples were affected; their minds overcome by the madness and savagery, they took on the forms of serpents, and called themselves the Druids of the Fang.
Gossip How did yous escape?
I was saved by my terminal disciple, Muyoh, and a band of adventurers. I considered the entire incident a failure. It wasn't until the Calamity occurred that I realized I'd been far too successful!
When the Barrens was croaky apart, a great font of underground water was breached and flowed up to the surface, full of the energies information technology was imbued with in the Wailing Caverns. Life immediately sprung from the earth effectually it, and the animals thrived...and and then it continued to grow, uncontrollably, unchecked.
At present I accept to answer for my arrogance in thinking I could dictate the flow and shape of nature myself. This overgrowth must be stopped, earlier it chokes out the natural wild animals entirely.

I will stay hither and lookout man over the land every bit it heals. Exercise keep an center out for any stragglers from here...
